Greg
& Suzanne, friends and former co-workers are headed for Australia.
They'll be there for at least a year. To make their life adventure
possible they had to sell their home, cars, and most distressing of all,
had to find homes for their beloved pets. Our household was honored
with being asked to care for Suzanne's sweeties. Moonshine (tan)
and Oh-Feel-Ya (black & white) have been a part of Suzanne's life for
many years. Both are geriatric bunnies being around eight years old.
But because of exceptional care, good natural/fresh herbs, fruits, and
other supplements, plus lots of exercise running around outside, these
bunnies are thriving.
Before hearing from Suzanne our household had a standing rule - no rabbits. The thinking was, "They're poop machines and they'd be a mess in the house." Well, these two bunnies live outdoors all year long. They have a chain link fenced enclosure (8ft x 6ft x 6ft) with attached heated hutch. Within the enclosure are a sort of carpeted patio, an A-frame for snowing days, plus assorted bells, fuzzy rugs, heated water bowl, hay holder, etc. These bunnies have deluxe accommodations! And so they moved in with us. Their "castle" is next to our garden on the south side of the backyard. We can look out our bay window and see what they're up to. Mornings, before Emma goes to school, we bring them their breakfast of herbs (like parsley or cilantro), apples and carrots. They're always ready to munch and come hopping to the gate as we approach. Bingo likes to stick his nose into things, sometimes snapping up a piece of straw to "floss" with. While bunny food shopping last night, Mary helped me do the nifty new 'check-your-own-groceries' checkout. I guess it's the wave of the future. We swiped out items over the laser scanner which registered the price. Then I swiped my credit card through the credit card thingy and we were done! Almost as neat as the no-man gas station we used somewhere in nowhere Nebraska. |
